A quick round to head into the weekend…
-
So, have you heard the news about Barry Bonds? Just kidding. Honestly, I could care less about this whole story. It will dominate the news around the world on all outlets, but not here. What happens if he is guilty? We all say, “I knew it!” If he’s found not guilty, we all say, “He got away with it!” See, there’s nothing new here; there’s nothing that can be gained.
-
So, have you heard about AROD lately? Man, breaking news comes down to that he agreed to an outline of a deal?!? I may write one more piece on him, but then I will put a lockout on anything AROD until spring training.
-
Mike Lowell has been offered 4 years by the Yankees to play 1st? I know I wrote about this yesterday, but 4 years?!? I can’t tell you how much I hope this is just a rumor. Please, Boston, save the Yankees from making another huge mistake. Like I’ve said, Lowell is a nice guy, good ballplayer, but he needs to stay in Fenway.
-
More Yankee news…Mariano Rivera is said to want a 4th year guaranteed. As unpopular as it may be, if he is firm with that, I would let him walk. Paying a 42 year old reliever top dollar would be another huge mistake. I hope this is all a ploy by Mo to get more money. He’s the best, but a 4th year is too much.

The Dodgers are rumored to be interested in Aaron Rowand. He’s a nice player, but that does seriously hinder the development of Andre Either as Juan Pierre would have to move to left. I can see a lot of teams testing Pierre’s “arm” in left. I’m not sold on Rowand at the plate either, which makes me wonder how much of an improvement this would be for the Dodgers.
-
Yorvit Torrealba cashed in with the Mets for a 3 year deal worth 15 million. I go on record now that Ramon Castro will start for the Mets on opening day. What does it say that the Rockies just let Torrealba go so easy? Paul Loduca must have had a lot of issues for the Mets to downgrade this easily.
-
Congrats to Jake Peavy who was the obvious choice for NL Cy Young. That was a thoroughly dominating season. He gets overlooked because he is on the West Coast, but he put together one of the best seasons a pitcher has had in quite some time.
-
I wish the Yankees would finish all of this so we can get on with the fun part of free agency and get the rest of baseball involved. They have dominated the news in pretty much every hometown paper for the past week or so.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the weekend. We’ll see you back on Monday.

My gut just tells me that Bonds is guilty of whatever charges come up. The sad part is that he had the talent to be Barry Bonds without all the steroids garbage. I don’t care if a-Rod goes 0 for the playoffs, I don’t want to hear any boo birds. I agree 4 years is too long for Lowell and I was against him as a replacement for A-Rod, but at first base…it’s tempting, especially in light of the players there now. I know it’s not my money, but I think Mo deserves the 4th year as a thank you for what he has done for the Yankees in his career. Even if he is finished by the 4th year, I still think he deserves the reward for being the greatest relief pitcher in the history of Yankee baseball and perhaps even in the history of Major League baseball.
