CHD: You May Have a Pinch Hitter in Your Couch Cushions

Last week New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel brought a pinch hitter in from the bullpen with two out and the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Raul Castro, already with two hits on the day, was summoned back to the dugout so career minor leaguer Omir Santos could bat. As Santos raced through the alley in his spikes, almost falling numerous times, Castro seethed. After the game and after Santos popped out to end it, Manuel was asked why he would have a possible pinch hitter in the bullpen.

He said, and I am paraphrasing, that pinch hitters come from all over the place in the Major Leagues. Apparently, coming from the bullpen isn’t all that crazy.

I’ve been trying to come up with different places a pinch hitter could come from and all I have so far is the clubhouse, bathroom, and maybe the batting cages underneath the stadium. Everything else I have is a reach. While most of these probably don’t make sense, here are places besides the bullpen where a Mets pinch hitter could be located.
