D-backs sign infielder Augie Ojeda to one-year contract
PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with infielder Augie Ojeda, who was arbitration eligible, on a one-year contract, as announced by D-backs executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes. Consistent with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Ojeda, 34, hit .246 (65-for-264) with 38 runs scored, 17 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run, 16 RBI and 32 walks in 103 games. He established career highs in at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples and walks. In the field, he appeared in 35 games at second base, 34 games at shortstop and 28 games at third base. As a second baseman, he has not committed an error in his last 115 games (79 starts) dating back to Sept. 15, 2004, the longest active streak among second baseman who have played a minimum 75 games.
Over parts of eight seasons in the Majors with the Chicago Cubs (2000-03), Minnesota Twins (2004) and D-backs (2007-09), he has batted .238 (234-for-983) with 129 runs scored, 41 doubles, 9 triples, 7 home runs and 76 RBI in 443 career games.
