D-backs sign right-handed pitcher Blaine Boyer to one-year contract

(PHOENIX, Ariz.) – The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Blaine Boyer, who was arbitration eligible, on a one-year contract, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes. Consistent with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Boyer, 28, was a combined 0-2 with a 4.12 ERA (25 ER in 54.2 IP) and .265 opponents average (56-for-211) with 20 walks and 29 strikeouts in 48 relief outings for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and D-backs last season. In 30 games for the D-backs, he was 0-1 with a 2.68 ERA (11 ER in 37.0 IP) and .273 opponents average (39-for-143) with 12 walks and 18 strikeouts. In 23 road appearances, he was 0-2 with a 1.75 ERA (5 ER in 25.2 IP) and .226 opponents average (21-for-93) with 8 walks and 13 strikeouts.

Over parts of five seasons in the Majors with the Braves (2005-09), Cardinals (2009) and D-backs (2009), he is 6-10 with 1 save and a 4.76 ERA (90 ER in 170.1 IP) in 174 career relief appearances as opponents have batted .266 (175-for-657) with 64 walks and 132 strikeouts.
