D-Backs announce Minor League coaching staffs
The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced the managers, coaches and staffs for their minor league affiliates for the 2010 season, as announced by D-backs’ Director, Player Development Mike Berger. The club has also named their player development coordinators.
The Triple-A Reno Aces return their coaching staff in the team’s second season. Manager Brett Butler will be at the helm for the second straight season, his sixth in the organization and fourth as a manager after managing at Double-A Mobile in 2007 and Single-A Lancaster in 2006. Butler also managed the Mets’ Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2004. Mike Parrott returns as pitching coach for his ninth season with the organization’s Triple-A club and 14th season in the organization. Rick Burleson returns as hitting coach for a second season, his third in the organization.
The Double-A Mobile BayBears will be managed by Rico Brogna, who is making his coaching debut after spending the previous three seasons as a Major League scout for the organization. Dan Carlson will serve as the pitching coach in his first season in Mobile, his ninth in the organization, after spending the last two seasons at Advanced-A Yakima. Turner Ward returns as hitting coach in his third season in the organization.
The Single-A Visalia Rawhide will be led by first-year manager Audo Vicente, who spent the last two season’s managing Rookie Missoula. Erik Sabel takes over as pitching coach in his sixth season in the organization, having served in the same capacity at Single-A South Bend the previous two seasons. Hitting coach Alan Zinter returns for a second season, his third in the organization.
The Single-A South Bend Silver Hawks return Manager Mark Haley for his sixth season and hitting coach Francisco Morales for his third season (sixth overall). Pitching coach Wellington Cepeda joins the Silver Hawks in his seventh year in the system after spending the last two campaigns at Single-A Visalia.
The Advanced-A Yakima Bears will be led by Bob Didier for the third straight season, his fifth in the system. Andy Abad returns as hitting coach for his second season. Doug Drabek will serve as pitching coach in his coaching debut.
The Rookie-Advanced Missoula Osprey will be managed by Hector de la Cruz, who spent the previous two seasons at Mobile and enters his 10th season in the organization. Hitting coach Jason Hardtke returns for his second season. Gil Heredia will serve as pitching coach in his first full season as a coach, having started last season as an auxiliary coach before taking over at Yakima as pitching coach.
Coordinators on the D-backs’ player development staff for 2010 include: Mike Bell (field), Jeff Pico (pitching), Dave Hansen (hitting), Tony Perezchica (infield), Joel Youngblood (outfield/baserunning), Bill Plummer (catching), Hatuey Mendoza (Latin liaison), P.J. Mainville (medical), Jimmy Southard (assistant medical), Brett McCabe (strength), Bob Bensinger (complex) and Ben Dorgan (clubhouse assistant).
