Braves Agree to Terms with Pitcher Peter Moylan

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan on a one-year contract for the 2010 season, thus avoiding salary arbitration.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Moylan was the last arbitration-eligible player on the Braves’ 40-man roster who was unsigned for 2010.

The 31-year-old Moylan is coming off an outstanding 2009 season in which he finished second in the majors with 87 appearances.  He established a Major League record for the most games pitched in a season without allowing a home run and became the first Brave to post two 80-appearance seasons in his career (he pitched in 80 games in 2007).

Moylan missed most of the 2008 season due to “Tommy John” surgery on his right elbow and returned to action in April 2009. He thrived after the All-Star break, going 4-0 with a 1.00 ERA, 33 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 38 outings (36.0 innings).  He went 3-0 with a 0.73 ERA in August and in September he posted a 0.66 ERA while his opponents hit just .170.
