Giants sign LHP Jonathan Sanchez to a one-year deal

Left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez has agreed to a one-year contract for the 2010 season, club Senior Vice President and General ManagerBrian Sabean announced today.  Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Sanchez, 27, finished the 2009 season with an 8-12 record and a 4.24 ERA in 32 games (29 starts) for the Giants. After a brief stint in the bullpen, the four-year Major League veteran pitched San Francisco’s first no-hitter in 33 years, an 8-0 win vs. San Diego on July 10 at AT&T Park. Beginning with his no-hitter, Sanchez concluded the season with a 6-4 record and a 3.46 ERA over his final 16 starts. He finished the campaign ranking fourth in the National League with 9.75 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and a .221 opponents’ batting average.
