Braves Sign International Prospect Edward Salcedo

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have signed highly-regarded shortstop prospect Edward Salcedo to a free-agent contract. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

The 18-year-old native of the Dominican Republic is considered one of the top players in this year’s international free-agent class. The 6-foot-3 Salcedo is a solid offensive threat and possesses outstanding defensive skills and a “plus” throwing arm, as well as above-average base-running ability.

“This is a significant signing for us,” said Johnny Almaraz, the Braves’ Director of International Scouting and Operations. “We feel that Edward is one of this year’s most talented prospects. He has outstanding makeup and the combination of his fielding and hitting ability make him one of the top international players we’ve seen in a while.”
