Orioles Make Seven Cuts

The Orioles today announced seven spring training roster cuts, bringing their spring roster to 54 players.

The Orioles optioned RHP BRANDON ERBE andLHP TROY PATTON to Triple-A Norfolk and RHPs LUIS LEBRON and CHORYE SPOONE to Double-A Bowie, sending all four to minor league camp.

RHP ARMANDO GABINO and LHPs CHRIS GEORGE and MICHAEL HINCKLEY were assigned to minor league camp.

A’s option three; Offer Cassevah back to Angels

The Oakland A’s have optioned right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen to Triple-A Sacramento and left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa and right-handed pitcher Fautino De Los Santos to Double-A Midland, the club announced today. The A’s also announced that they are offering Rule 5 Draft Pick, right-handed pitcher Bobby Cassevah, back to the Los Angeles Angels.

The A’s now have 49 players remaining in camp, which includes 36 players on the 40-man roster and 13 non-roster invitees. The breakdown includes 23 pitchers, four catchers, 12 infielders and 10 outfielders.

D-backs option 4 players, reassign 8 others to minor league camp

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that they optioned four players and reassigned eight others to minor league camp today, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Josh Byrnes.

The D-backs optioned infielder Pedro Ciriaco and pitchers Leyson Septimo, Daniel Stange and Cesar Valdez to minor league camp. The club also reassigned pitchers Tom Layne, Kyler Newby, Wes Roemer, Bryan Shaw and Matt Torra, catcher Konrad Schmidt, infielder Mark Hallberg and outfielder Collin Cowgill to minor league camp.

The team now has a total of 46 players in Major League camp, including 23 pitchers, five catchers, 11 infielders and seven outfielders.

Braves Cut 13

The Atlanta Braves trimmed their spring roster by 13 players today, optioning seven players and re-assigning six others. Right-handed pitchers Steve Marek, James Parr and Todd Redmond were optioned to Gwinnett (AAA), along with left-handed pitcher Lee Hyde. Right-handed pitchers Juan Abreu and Kyle Cofield and left-handed pitcher Jose Ortegano were optioned to Mississippi (AA).

The six players who were re-assigned to minor league camp include right-handed pitchers Erik Cordier and Chris Resop, left-handed pitcher Mike Minor, catchers Braeden Schlehuber and Jesus Sucre and outfielder Cody Johnson.

Atlanta now has 44 active players remaining in its Major League camp.
