Spring Moves: Orioles,Twins, Rangers, Cubs

Orioles Option Perez

The Orioles announced that they have optioned LHP WILFRIDO PEREZ to Double-A Bowie. He will report to the Orioles’ minor league camp. Perez did not allow a hit or run and struck out four batters in four appearances spanning 3.1 innings this spring.

Twins Trim to 42

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced after today’s game that they have optioned infielders Luke Hughes, Trevor Plouffe and Danny Valencia, and right-handed pitcher Anthony Swarzak to Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins now have 42 players in camp: 18 pitchers (three non-roster), six catchers (two non-roster), 10 infielders (two non-roster), and eight outfielders (four non-roster).

Rangers assign three players to Minor League camp

The Texas Rangers announced today the following three transactions for the spring training roster:

With these moves, the Rangers now have 48 players on the Spring Training roster, including 39 protected by the 40-man roster, 9 non-roster players, and one player on the 60-day disabled list.

Cubs Trim to 42

The Chicago Cubs today sent eight players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 50 to 42 players.

Right-handed pitchers Blake Parker and Jeff Stevens and catcher Welington Castillo were optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Five non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitchers Andrew Cashner, Casey Coleman and Thomas Diamond, left-handed pitcher J.R. Mathes and infielder Bryan LaHair.

Chicago’s spring roster of 42 players consists of 18 pitchers (one non-roster invitee), four catchers (two non-roster invitees), 12 infielders (five non-roster invitees) and eight outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
